Frequently Asked Questions
1. How long are the sessions and what are they like? Most students are tutored once or twice per week. You choose the frequency. Sessions are typically 1 hour long, though sometimes 90-minute sessions are done. Students can be evaluated for areas of weakness to focus on, but most students and/or parents already know which specific topics or skills a student needs help with, and can request these areas be the primary focus. Sessions are often spent going over new or old homework assignments, re-teaching lessons from class, studying for a test or quiz, and practicing previously identified areas of deficiency. If a student knows exactly what they need help with, that’s what we do!
2. Who needs a tutor? I have worked with a wide variety of ages and abilities, from students in basic grade-level classes to those in honors courses. I have tutored students in danger of failing, and tutored students with A’s who wanted to ensure their grades remained high.
3. What classes do you tutor? Basic math for grades 5 through 7, Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Geometry, Life Science, Physical Science, Earth/Space Science, and more. I tutor students in grades 5 to 10.
4. How much does tutoring cost? Sessions are $50 per hour ($70 for 90 minutes)
5. Do you offer online tutoring, like via Zoom? Most teachers and students would agree it’s much easier to learn and interact with live, in-person teaching. My tutoring sessions are currently in-person only. However, if there are extenuating circumstances, online sessions using Zoom could be considered.
6. Do you tutor evenings or weekends? Evening sessions are common. I am also available for daytime sessions. If you need a weekend time slot, move fast because those will fill up in a hurry!
